Silver
Silver comprises one of the largest and most important areas of Telfair Museums' collections of decorative arts. Many of the objects either have ties to Savannah families or were made by silversmiths who worked in the city. Because they have an inherent, material value, silver objects frequently were passed down from one generation to the next or given as very precious gifts to commemorate special occasions. Silver also played a very important role in dining rituals, which grew and changed substantially over the course of the 19th century.
